Road dust has prompted an air quality advisory to be issued for the city of Prince George.

"Light winds and dry conditions overnight as well as clear skies contributed to dust accumulating in the air shed," said a joint release from the provincial Ministry of Environment and Northern Health Authority.

Coarse particles were measured at levels above the desired provincial benchmark of 50 mirograms per cubic metre downtown and at the BCR site.

Levels may improve slightly this afternoon, but increase again in the evening, said the advisory, and clouds and expected rainfall tonight expected to play a role in keeping the levels low overnight.

The dust advisory is expected to be in effect until at least tomorrow morning.
