Smoke and dust are the culprits behind an air quality advisory issued for Prince George and surrounding areas on Wednesday afternoon.
High concentrations of fine particulate were affecting the area at a concentration of 26.1 micrograms per cubic metre.
"Currently, the hourly particulate readings are dropping but weak dispersion due to stagnant air is likely to keep concentrations above thresholds for another day," said the joint advisory from the provincial Environment Ministry, Northern Health and the city of Prince George.
The advisory triggered the city's Free Fare for Clean Air program, which provides free public transit as of midnight Thursday and ending at midnight the day the advisory is lfited.
