One person is dead following an early morning crash south of Williams Lake.

The incident happened around 5 a.m., Cpl. Madonna Saunderson tells Glacier Media, on Highway 97 near 141 Mile House when a Kia Rio crossed the centre line and collided with an empty logging truck headed north.

The driver of the Rio didn't survive the crash, and the driver of the truck was not physically injured.

RCMP aren't sure of the cause of the crash, but slippery roads were reported at the scene.

"We want to remind the motoring public to make sure your vehicle is properly equipped for winter driving" says Staff Sgt. Del Byron of the Williams Lake RCMP in the release.

DriveBC currently has a road condition warning for most of Highway 97, including the section where the collision took place, warning of compact snow and slush.
