The Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George is getting a nice chunk of change from the province’s Community Resilience Through Arts and Culture program.

The society is getting $12,000, which they’ll use to host a moccasin making workshop over four days which aims to revive the lost art of passing on knowledge, tradition and pride onto youth, middle-aged, and junior Elders.

"Arts and culture help lift people up, especially during times of adversity. They are an essential part of our identity and fuel a spirit of resiliency," said Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Lisa Beare in a news release.

"Through these grants, we are working to make life better by supporting projects that harness the power of arts and culture to build healthy, connected communities."

The grant program supports arts and culture events, festivals, and initiatives led by groups in communities that are experiencing hardship, historic oppression or other challenges.

Funding is also focused on cultural revitalization within Indigenous communities, with more than 80 per cent of grants going to projects centred on Indigenous culture and supporting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

In this round of funding, the program supported 83 projects in 68 communities between 2018 and 2019, ranging from $2,500 to $15,000.
