Another project set to help prevent future blazes has already begun within the Prince George Fire Centre.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is conducting a third fuel management plan in as many months near Vanderhoof, the second near Redmond Pit Road since December, which is also set to improve overall health in nearby forests in removing trees damaged by spruce beetles.

Weather dependent, crews will ignite controlled pile burns covering 30 hectares in size while following all open burning and smoke regulations to limit the impact of local air quality.

The burn site is located west of Redmond Pit Road and south of Quail Road; a map of the area can be seen below.

Residents and commuters are not to be alarmed if they see smoke or flames from this area, along with Highway 16 and other parts of Vanderhoof.

The fuel-mitigation project is set to end by March 31.

More information on open burning and smoke control can be found on the BCWS website.

To report a wildfire, you’re encouraged to call 1-800-663-5555 or text *5555 on your cellphone.
