More than 12 hours after an underground water pipe burst on Sixth Avenue, a second one has taken place this evening (Jan. 15).

The City of Prince George says another 64-year-old water main has broken along the downtown corridor, this time at its Victoria Street intersection and crews are currently on scene trying to fix it.

According to a release, this exploded pipe is not connected to the Sixth Avenue water main that burst early this morning between Winnipeg and Vancouver Streets due to the extreme cold conditions.

However, this one is also 15cm in diameter and built of cast iron material.

As a result of tonight's incident, drivers are being asked by the city to make adjustments to your downtown commute as Sixth Avenue is closed to traffic at the intersection, but Victoria Street remains fully open.

Buildings in the area of Sixth and Victoria will be without water service at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Jan. 16).
