A salute to Canada's war effort

More than 20 members of the Dutch community in Prince George saluted Canada's war efforts by planting 3,000 red and white tulip bulbs at the new war cenotaph in front of city hall Tuesday.

More than 20 members of the Dutch community in Prince George saluted Canada's war efforts by planting 3,000 red and white tulip bulbs at the new war cenotaph in front of city hall Tuesday.

The bulbs, donated by the Dutch residents and Josh Van Hage of Art Knapps Plantland, will bloom next spring to coincide with the liberation of the Netherlands by Canadian troops and the conclusion of the Second World War.

The planting honours our Canadian army veterans who helped liberate the country in May of 1945 after five years of oppression by the German army, said Dick Vaneugen, who's co-ordinating this year's project. Read more in the Citizen.
