A rocky road for Shelley neighbours

A stream of gravel trucks might be good for business in the Shelley area but it might be too harsh for the environment and quality of life in the rural community east of Prince George.

A stream of gravel trucks might be good for business in the Shelley area but it might be too harsh for the environment and quality of life in the rural community east of Prince George.

Greg Yon has proposed a gravel mine on his farm that would extract, according to preliminary documents, 10,000 cubic metres of the rocky aggregate. Since the usual dump truck load of gravel amounts to about 7.6 cubic metres, that means more than 1,300 trips to and then from the site over the five-year duration of the proposal.

Some neighbours worry that all of those trips will rip past the Walrath Road wetlands, and their homes.
