Government at the local level has the most direct impact on residents' day-to-day lives, but despite that fact, voter turnout has been low.

In 2011, only 28.8 per cent of eligible voters turned out to cast their ballots.

This election season, the Prince George Citizen wants to see that number jump to 50 per cent.

The Your Vote Matters campaign is aiming to help arm the electorate with some of the tools necessary to make that happen.

To that end, the Citizen has launched a dedicated Your Vote Matters section on its website. Visit princegeorgecitizen.com/your-vote-matters for election-related news, information and candidate profiles. Start with the short explanatory video (The big 5-0) at the top of the page.

But like any democracy, this can't be a one-way conversation. The Citizen wants to hear from you.

Keep an eye on the website for opportunities to interact with candidates, offer feedback and a way to tell the rest of the city just why it's so important to get out and vote.

The next four years are at stake and your vote matters.
