71-year-old woman found dead in Richmond, son apprehended

This appears to be an isolated incident, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

A 71-year-old Richmond woman was found dead in her residence on Princeton Avenue.

A 71-year-old woman was found dead in the Seafair area of Richmond on Friday and her 38-year-old son has been apprehended by police.

Richmond RCMP received a wellness call around 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26. Shortly thereafter, a large police presence was seen by local residents near Francis Road and Railway Avenue.

According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), the woman was found dead inside her home on Princeton Avenue.

Evidence found on scene resulted in her son, who was also in the home, being apprehended, according to IHIT.

IHIT is taking conduct of the investigation, working with Richmond RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Team. 

"This is an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the public," said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. "Anyone with information about the victim or anyone else involved in this incident is asked to contact IHIT immediately, as we work to build a timeline of events."
