The Road to the Roar curling event held recently has left its own legacy to benefit sports activities in Prince George which hoisted the November event.

A total of $25,000 in endowment funds has been turned over to the Prince George Community Foundation to invest and use the interest for curling-related sports in the future.

PGCF president Jim Imrich said such investments from events like the curling pre-trials, Seniors' Games, Royal Bank Cup and Scott Tournament of Hearts in 2000 "is a great way to give back to the community for the long term."

The original amount contributed is never depleted since only the income earned is distributed.

The five-day pre-Olympic curling event is estimated to have dropped as much as $2 million into the city's economy with 25,000 spectators attending.

"All in all the event was a huge success. The Canadian Curling Association was very pleased with the attention to detail that went into the event," said Larry Parker, Road to the Roar co-chair.

Kudos goes to teams of volunteers from PGCF and the Road to the Roar committee for outstanding service.
