Rremember the good Samaritan truck driver who stopped to assist a `stranded' vehicle near Valemount and was knocked unconscious for his kindness?

Well, the Canadian Trucking Alliance, in a bid to bring the "evil thugs" to justice, is matching a $10,000 reward posted by the B.C. Truckers Association to help identify, catch and convict those who beat and left 67-year-old Alex Fraser of Lumby lying unconscious on the road.

The attack on the veteran truck driver on Sept. 24 resulted in major reconstructive surgery to repair his face and eye socket following the beating and left him so traumatized he has decided to leave the industry, said CEO David Bradley, CTA.

“The CTA board of directors has asked me to let all truck drivers know that their personal safety is of paramount concern,” Bradley said.

“The evil thugs who participated in what clearly appears to be a premeditated attack on the first truck driver to stop to help must be found and held accountable for such a brutal act.

“Truck drivers are still considered by many to be the knights of the road,” he said. “Despite their busy schedules many are still willing to stop to help a motorist in distress. Clearly, while truck drivers should always exercise caution, what happened to Mr. Fraser will make

them nervous about doing so in the future, and this would be a shame."

Tips leading to the conviction of Fraser’s assailants are now eligible for up to a $20,000 reward.
