$20,000 raised for ALS

The Prince George Walk for ALS raised over $20,000, organizers said Friday. Held June 24, the event featured a barbecue, live entertainment, face painting and a silent auction. The proceeds will go to research and patient services.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neuromuscular disease that affects the person's motor neurons that carry messages to the muscles.

When these muscles fail to receive messages, they lose strength, atrophy and die, leaving the person immobilized.
