For the eighth straight year, College of New Caledonia''s practical nursing students have achieved a 100-per-cent pass rate on their national licensing exam.

"This is just excellent news because it proves what we have been saying for years - that we have outstanding instructors and a first-rate nursing program at CNC," said communications and development director Randall Heidt.

The Canadian Practical Nursing Registration Exam is a national exam that most provinces use for provincial registration.

CNC's practical nursing class of 2010, comprised of 32 graduates, wrote the exam in September 2010 after they successfully completed their practicums in the one-year certificate program and recently received their marks.

The exam is composed of two parts and students are given three-and-a-half hours in the morning and three and a half hours in the afternoon to write it. They must answer about 300 multiple choice questions, some case-based and others independent.

The practical nursing certificate program begins each September at CNC. One year later, students graduate in late August before writing the national exam.
