A Yukon music treasure has frequently found his way to glitter in Prince George. He is here again this week for a pair of shows, showing off a brand-new album that's already getting attention from awards committees.
Brandon Isaak, also known as Yukon Slim, is an acoustic blues performer with touches of swing and ragtime in his sound. He is becoming a mainstay of the Western Canadian roots music scene, and his new disc Here On Earth is cementing the reputation.
It has already picked up a nominated for a 2014 Western Canadian Music Award (his previous offering Bluesman's Plea also got a WCMA nod in the Best Blues Album category) and two categories (Acoustic Act and Songwriter) in the upcoming Maple Blues Award honouring national blues acts.
With that momentum behind him, Isaak is doing a four-night mini tour of the Cariboo. He did a Williams Lake show earlier in the week, he is in Prince George tonight for a sold-out house concert, then Prince George gets another earful on Thursday at Shiraz Cafe, followed by a gig in Horsefly on Friday.
Admission for the Shiraz show (at Parkwood Mall near the movie theatres) is by donation and reservations are strongly advised.
