Writers unite at Scribblers Unanimous

There's nothing like one writer going to another for constructive criticism and a little guidance. That's where Scribblers Unanimous: Creative Writers Group For Adults comes in.

There's nothing like one writer going to another for constructive criticism and a little guidance.

That's where Scribblers Unanimous: Creative Writers Group For Adults comes in.

Every other Thursday a group of a dozen or so local writers gather together to share ideas and works at the main branch of the Prince George Public Library.

"This is a pretty passionate group," said Neil Godbout, communications co-ordinator for the library. "The writers present their work and others then gently critique it, talk about it and make suggestions on how to improve it."

This writers' group is a free, no sign up deal and new people are always welcome to join.

"Coming together in a room twice a month with adults that share the same passion -- even if they write in completely different genres and completely different styles -- it doesn't matter. It's still just all about putting words on pages and telling stories."

Writing is solitary work, Godbout said, a published author of a teen urban fantasy, Disintegrate, the first of the Broken Guardian series.

"It's lonely work so to come together twice a month with a group of other adults who know those challenges and who know how solitary that work is, for a chance to come together -- it's exciting," said Godbout, who was guest speaker at a Scribblers Unanimous meeting. "And it's a little nerve racking because you're presenting your work and seeing what others say but it ultimately makes everybody's writing better. I think that's why that group keeps coming back because they know it makes them better writers."

The next meeting is Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m.
