Coming from a strong finish in the PEAK Performance Project, Willhorse will be taking to the stage during the kick off for the Coldsnap Festival on Saturday at Riley's Pub at 8 p.m.
The annual winter music festival presented by Prince George Folkfest Society takes place January 24 to February 1 with a variety of artists from all over the world entertaining the winter-blues ridden residents of Prince George. The lineup will be announced during Saturday's kick off show.
Willhorse placed fifth, beating out almost 600 bands, in Pattison's Peak Performance Project where the focus was on self-promotion, self-management and a general do-it-yourself attitude.
"Because that's what it's come to in this business," said lead singer Jeremy Borschneck. "You gotta do it all."
Willhorse has been extensively touring to showcase their music throughout Canada and will be making a special stop in Prince George.
"Every day is a surprise and that's why we thrive off of living on the road," said Borschneck. "We have a 1973 MCI tour bus that we tour around with in the summer, so it draws a lot of attention and it always creates surprises."
Their latest song recorded during the Peak Performance Project, Let It Roll, is being played on radio stations right now. Willhorse has plans to record an album in 2014 and with three writers in the band the selection of music will be diverse.
"It's kind of a cool process that we have," said Borschneck. "We individually write - we collab on a few - but we all write and there are certain flavours that will come on the record. So it's three people writing one album."
To get audience reaction, the band will play some of their new work during the Coldsnap kick off.
"We'll be playing some of the songs live just to see what the crowd thinks," said Borschneck. "We've never been to Prince George before, so we're excited about coming to perform."
Tickets for Willhorse are $20 plus GST at Books and Co. and Studio 2880.
