The PGSO ascends, on Saturday night.
In a show focused on the violin, the symphony presents a night entitled Virtuoso and they intend to live up to the bold name.
The centrepiece will be the Ralph Vaughan-Williams's popular The Lark Ascending.
"When BBC Radio asked its listeners to choose their favourite piece of music, it was an online vote, they chose this. When you hear it, you'll understand why," said PGSO conductor Kevin Zakresky.
Handling the virtuoso duties will be guest star Dale Barltrop making his first Prince George appearance. The PGSO will also spotlight him for Ravel's homage to the gypsy violin in the piece entitled Tsigane.
Also on the agenda that night, Eileen Padgett's Tide Unleashed, a world premier commissioned work, and Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 8 in B minor ("Unfinished").

One of the biggest hit shows of the Canada Winter Games mainstage music festival was The Alex Cuba Band. The Smithers group was on such a high from that wild night that they immediately booked a return show back in P.G. See Alex and his Grammy-nominated (he has already won Juno Awards and a Latin Grammy) band at Art Space on April 1. Tickets are $25 and expected to go faster than the last cerveza on a Havana beach.
The Two Rivers Gallery welcomes its latest Rustad Galleria show. Rebirth is a collection of works by members of the Prince George Artists Workshop.
Assistant curator Maeve Hanna said, "In 2015 Prince George is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Right on the heels of the 2015 Canada Winter Games, Rebirth will celebrate Prince George being reborn as a cultural, dynamic, thriving community. Works will include paintings of Prince George as members see it today and other reincarnations of the theme rebirth seen through nature and the cycles of life."
The country-rock duo Smith And Martin take the Cafe Voltaire stage tonight at 8 p.m. for a free concert.

If you're feeling some Improv Ad Nauseum in your tummy, the antidote is at the Twisted Cork on Saturday where local comedians and actors throw down whatever leaps quickest to mind in this improvisational comedy event. St. Patrick's Day wouldn't be complete in Prince George without an Out Of Alba concert. Fresh off their closing night Canada Winter Games mainstage show, the local Celtic rockers will host their annual St. Paddy's show on Tuesday night at Nancy O's. Tickets are $10, it's a full night of Irish merriment, and all are encouraged to bring their own instruments to join the fun.
Exploration Place museum and science centre has opened a new exhibit that digs through the snowy crusts of the planet's history and deep into the fossil record.
"Ice Age Mammals is a national travelling exhibition that explores the hot topic of climate change," said CEO Tracy Calogheros. "Find out all about the last ice age; the mammals that survived and those that didn't. See skulls and bones of ice age beasts, and detailed artwork of what they looked like. Touch a real mammoth tusk! Hear scientists' stories as they recount their Arctic adventures and discoveries. It's a cool experience."

Cougar Annie, the strong, capable, pioneer woman who trapped over seventy cougars, bore thirteen children and outlived four husbands (all in the remote Clayoquot rain forest), has been immortalized in song. Sooke resident Katrina Kadoski has collected stories, images and letters from Annie's life and compiled them into an original body of music (performed on guitar and banjo), Cougar Annie Tales. That body of work is traveling to Artspace on March 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this show are $12 (students and seniors) and $15 (adults) in advance (at Books & Co.) and $15 (students and seniors) and $18 (adults) at the door.
A Night Of Celtic Music is coming to the PG Playhouse on March 22. This 8 p.m. concert event has star fiddler Kierah (a Canadian Folk Music Award winner) in the spotlight backed up by Adrian Dolan on piano, accordion and mandolin plus Adam Dobres on guitar. Rock music's favourite antihero comes to CN Centre on March 31. Marilyn Manson, the godfather of goth, brings his The Hell Not Hallelujah Tour to Prince George, along with past hits like The Beautiful People, his famous version of Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This, Dope Show, No Reflection and many others. He has been nominated for four Grammy Awards and five MTV Music Awards over the years.
Singer-songwriter Peter Katz brings his Juno-nominated songs and voice to Prince George this spring. Katz announced this week that he would return to Art Space on May 19 for the only northern B.C. stop on his 20-city Canadian tour. He is bringing his latest album We Are The Reckoning.
