BC Northern Exhibition goes from Aug. 8 to 11 at the exhibition grounds at CN Centre and is longest running family fair, celebrating its 101st year with everything from barrel racing to pancake breakfasts to live bands and full midway. Pioneer day is Aug. 8 and kicks off the event, followed by Kid's Day Aug. 9, Family Fun for Everyone Aug. 10 and Farm and Ranch Day Aug. 11. Gate admission is valid all day. General admission is $15 for those 13 to 59, seniors 60 and over and youth four to 12 years are $10 and children three and under are free.
Carolyn Mark in concert tonight at 8 p.m. at Cafe Voltaire, Books & Co., 1685 Third Ave. Mark is a alt-country singer songwriter from Victoria who will make a special appearance at the weekly Friday Night Mics event. As always, this is a free show.
Homestead Days at Huble Homestead, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Take a step back in history this BC Day long weekend, and celebrate Prince George's pioneers at Homestead Days, Huble's premier pioneer event. Two days of fun, including heritage demonstrations, old fashioned contests, relays, and games for children and adults alike. Celebrate the Central Interior Railway and Forestry Industry Museum's 30th anniversary with the Forever Young Chorus presenting the Romance of the Rail August 5 from 5 to 10 p.m. Special guests include John Rogers, Said Dog and Jen Neiser. There is a barbecue, beer garden and a dance floor. Admission is $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Tickets are at the museum, 850 River Road.
Exhibit 365, a relationship with cancer, is Cat Sivertsen's display of art at Storefront Studio, 1144 Fourth Avenue. The exhibit can be seen until August 10, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon until 6 p.m.
The Prince George Public Library, 887 Dominion Street, offers guided walking tours of the historic downtown. Public art, Interesting features and notable buildings will be featured along the way. Tall tales about quirky residents will be told of days gone by in the heart of the city. The Little Prince Steam Train is back for another season at Fort George Park. The train runs weekends from noon to 4 p.m. The 24-inch gauge train runs a half mile loop next door to Exploration Museum. Cost is $2 per person. For more information call 250-562-1612.
