Shiraz heating up

Tonight at Shiraz Restaurant, three of P.G.'s own music-makers: Erika Callewaert, Micah Green and their special guest Graham Meszaros. Showtime is 7 p.m.

Saturday night, the Shiraz stage goes to Ceci & Kazo, the duo comprised of Isaac Smeele and Adalia Pemberton-Smith.

Next week, Shiraz has Michael Morneau, Renee & Corbie Black, Karyn Ellis and more.

McMahon at Nancy O's

On Saturday, one night only, Milo McMahon will be in the spotlight at Nancy O's for his P.G. stop on a cross-Canada tour. McMahon is a Montreal-based singer-songwriter with roots to Winnipeg, Ireland and the treeplanting cutblocks of B.C. His friends call his recipe of folkie-alternative stuff "screef rock" which will immediately make sense to any former treeplanter. Tickets are $5 at the door. Showtime is 9 p.m.

Art options

The Books & Company arts complex is now featuring two painters in separate exhibitions.

The art of Northern B.C.'s Erin Giesbrecht is up on the Caf Voltaire walls. All art will be available for purchase.

Upstairs in Artspace the gallery belongs to Kimi Orton's paintings, also with purchase opportunities.

In the basement of Books & Company, Underground Art is a new gallery that features the work of resident artists and many guest creators.

Now on stage...

Nancy O's gives the stage to a thick week of entertainers. With standup comedian Chris James and folk-rocker Milo McMahon tonight and Saturday, it moves into bluegrass act 5 On A String on Monday, Kamloops classic rockers The Decoys on Tuesday, Open Mic on Wednesday, closing the week with Texture & Light, FirewoodPoetry and Blackberry Wood.

Beat of the drums

Can you hear the rhythms? Can you feel the beat? It will be unmistakable on July 25 when the Tympana Percussion Society holds the city's first ever Day Of Drums. There will be classes, demonstrations, seminars and a lot of drum jamming happening throughout the day. Morning and afternoon sessions will be held at The Black Donkey Cafe then evening highlight performances at Art Space (tickets in advance from Books & Company for $15 or $20 at the door).

Quilters unite

Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to join the P.G. Quilters Guild meetings held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Connaught Youth Centre (in the Kiska room upstairs).

For more information contact guild president Barb Friesen at 564-6288 or e-mail [email protected].

Watercolour wonders

The Community Arts Council has held over the popular exhibition of paintings by their artist-in-residence Cliff Mann. His show Bodies Of Water is an innovative collection of nudes done in his signature watercolour medium. The collection is on display now until the end of July in the Studio 2880 feature gallery alongside the gift shop.
