Tonight at 7 p.m. the Casse-Tte Festival of Experimental Music bends the air at Exploration Place. Come hear free-form jazz, avant guarde classical, twisted electronica, and all kinds of other edgy interpretations of melody and rhythm.
Local performers and visiting musical guests will blend their minds and talents for three days of entertainment that surprises and delights while pushing the envelopes of music.
Visiting artists include Catherine Sikora (New York City), Stanley Jason Zappa (Oliver), Pigeon Breeders (Edmonton), Jung People (Calgary), Chersea (Vancouver), and The Institute for the Study of Advanced Musical Research (Vancouver, Calgary).
Participating local artists include Raghu Lokanathan, Christians, Burndog Hyena, Pg9o9, Jose Delgado-Guevara, Anne Harris, Kaia Andal, Peter Stevenson and festival founder Jeremy Stewart.
Festival passes are ($36 regular, $32 with valid student ID) available at Books & Co.
Evening show tickets are $20 each. Children under 12 are free.
The Elder Citizens Recreation Association hosts its Prince and Princess Tea Parade on Saturday

Looking for something to do with dad on Father's Day this Sunday? Why not come down to Fort George Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate the 40th Father's Day Show 'n Shine at the south end of the park (Exploration Place side) while the north end of the park (Kiwanis Band Shell side) will be an array of food and entertainment done Metis style. The Prince George Metis Community Association will be hosting the Metis Heritage Day Celebration at Fort George Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On June 22, the public is invited to a colourful piano recital. Local piano teacher and cookbook author Lori Elder will assemble some of her students at 2 p.m. inside the B.C. Cancer Agency Centre for the North where they will unveil a unique piano. It was donated then artistically jazzed up to enliven the cancer treatment facility by both sight and sound. After Elder and the students launch it with that afternoon's concert, it will be freely available for anyone passing by to play or just poke the keys. Her music-themed cookbook and a CD of their music will also be available for sale, with proceeds going to local cancer causes.
Steve Earle and the Dukes returns to Prince George on June 26. The modern country outlaw is at Vanier Hall packing hits as diverse as Copperhead Road, Guitar Town, Transcendental Blues, The Other Kind and many more hits.
June 29 Prince George Legion will be hosting a family event at the Railway and Forestry Museum (850 River Road) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate 100 years of P.G. rail history. Admission is free with a donation to the food bank. The day includes games, crafts, guided tours, the full array of museum attractions, along with hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream and rides on the Cottonwood Express Minirail. The African Children's Choir returns to Prince George on July 25. Their rousing choral voice and inspirational story takes them all over the world raising funds and awareness for important causes on the African continent. They have been a popular attraction in previous P.G. appearances.
Their performance here will be at the Evangelical Free Church (4590 5th Ave.) at 7 p.m.

Popular children's characters Toopy and Binoo will be live in P.G. on October 23 at the CN Centre. Tickets go on sale June 6 at CN Centre box office, Studio 2880 and Ticketmaster online.
Toopy and Binoo were born on the pages of books by Dominique Jolin, then became television stars starting in 2005. Now the live stage show is touring western Canada for the first time.
