Show Don't Tell.

That's award-winning author Ed Zaruk's advice for new writers and it just happens to be the title of the first workshop in a series of four called Write Better 101 held in November at Books and Company.

Zaruk will hold the first installment Saturday, Nov. 5 and each Saturday following there will be a different theme addressed, including How to Write Dialogue, Develop Characters with Emotion, and Mistakes I've Made Along The Way.

Each workshop is a one hour slide presentation with a question and answer discussion with the author afterward.

"I will stay at the workshop until everyone's questions are answered -- as long as Books & Co. stays open, I'll be there," said Zaruk, gold medal winner of the 2009 Independent Publisher Awards (IPPY) Best Fiction in Western Canada region .

Zaruk has written three books, Faulklands Deadline, Alter and Throne and Night Trek.

Zaruk encourages writers to bring a sample of their work to the workshops for review, if they wish.

Each workshop is $15 or $50 for all four, students are $10 per session. Register at Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue or by calling 250-563-6637.
