Watoto choir brings beautiful Africa to Prince George

The inspirational sounds of the Watoto Children's Choir return to Prince George this weekend.

The inspirational sounds of the Watoto Children's Choir return to Prince George this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, the choir brings their Beautiful Africa: A New Generation tour back to the city with vibrant African music, dance routines and stories.

The choir, established 10 years ago, travels internationally as ambassadors for the millions of children in Africa orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war and poverty. Each child in the choir has suffered the loss of one or both parents.

The choir members live in Watoto Children's Villages, where they are raised to become productive citizens of their country. The tour will feature fair trade items for sale made by women in Watoto's Living Hope program. The program targets HIV-positive single women, those returned from abduction by the Lord's Resistance Army and teenage mothers.

The choir will give three free performances:

• Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. at Timbers Community Church (1553 Third Ave.)

• Sunday, March 2 at 10 a.m. - Prince George Pentecostal Church (497 Ospika Blvd.)

• Sunday, March 2 at 7 p.m. - Westwood Church (2658 Ospika Blvd. South)
