A vote for Northern FanCon is a vote for Prince George.
The annual pop-culture convention is the subject of a short documentary that has made the cut for a funding contest. StoryHive is an initiative of Telus whereby the B.C. company allocates money to stories told on film by creators living in British Columbia and Alberta.
Should the Northern FanCon entry get enough votes, it would receive thousands of dollars in grant money to expand the project into a full documentary.
This documentary would be a major vehicle for drawing attention all over the province and nation to the all-original convention held in Prince George. The event was a contender in the Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards in the Tourism Excellence category because of its unique way of attracting people to the area and boosting awareness internationally about what Prince George has to offer, said main organizer Norm Coyne.
"Over three days, we saw thousands of fans descend on Prince George, some from as far away as south Texas, to see the likes of William Shatner, Giancarlo Esposito, Tia Carrere, Jewel Staite and many others," Coyne said. "Northern FanCon has become a massive brand in the city and we have plans to make it even bigger in 2016. Using footage we had compiled over the three days, plus interviews and satellite events we plan to shoot, we would like to tell the story behind the Con as well as the effect it has had on the fan community in the city and the city itself."
The voting is done online. There is a quick sign-up process, then each day you can vote for up to five projects in the running.
To get in on the voting, go to http://www.storyhive.com/project/show/id/966 and click on 'vote on project' in the upper right of the screen. It's that easy.
