Vanderhoof museum gets improvements

Historic buildings in Vanderhoof will get a $41,000 boost as the community museum reaps the benefits of the Job Creation Partnership funding project with four workers doing renovations to the site.

Historic buildings in Vanderhoof will get a $41,000 boost as the community museum reaps the benefits of the Job Creation Partnership funding project with four workers doing renovations to the site.

The museum is an historic site where the grounds include restored period buildings of the 1900s, a restaurant, gift shop and a heritage park.

Wheelchair ramps will be installed on the grounds at the Reimer residence, OK Cafe and the Royal Bank building to aid in accessibility as well as installation of gutters, doors and windows to spruce things up, the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation announced this week.

Workers will get experience through the 22-week job creation project that also sees the installation of horse shoe pits and a limestone pathway to link buildings on the museum grounds.

"The Vanderhoof Community Museum is a treasured historical resource and tourist attraction," said Nechako Lakes MLA, John Rustad. "Thanks to Community and Employer Partnership funding, workers are getting job experience and, once the project wraps up, the museum will be even more attractive and accessible to visitors."
