Two Rivers Gallery AGM also an artistic event

A place touting itself a hub of cultural activity simply can't have a boring old AGM.

Two Rivers Gallery has built an artistic event into its annual general meeting on Wednesday night.

Organizers felt it was the least they could do to show support for their many volunteers and society members, entice members of the public to come take part in the free meeting and give one more spark of support for the local arts scene since they had a crowd assembled.

"We are summing up 2015, highlighting all the great things that happened in the past year like the record attendance numbers we had around the Canada Winter Games (15,000 people in that time period), and we will have a special presentation by local artist Kim Stewart," said managing director Carolyn Holmes.

"She is one of the artists in the Voice group show we have going on right now. She has been exhibiting here for a number of years.

"She teaches at CNC (along with Annerose Georgeson, Betty Kovacic and Julia Whittaker she was part of the CNC Library's exhibition that just closed on Friday) and is very connected to the local arts scene. She recently completed a residency at the Banff Centre and was just awarded a Canada Council grant to explore more of her work in the coming year, so its exciting to hear her story."

Stewart's presentation is entitled Once Upon a Time In the West.

The AGM is also an opportunity to join in on the conversation and, for paid members, even the voting on the governance structure and key initiatives of the gallery going forward.

"It is important that people come, for a number of reasons," said Holmes.

"One of the things our funders look for is how people in the community are supporting us and connecting with us, the level of engagement with the public, so here you get to have a say in the future of the gallery. If you're a member you can vote, or you can buy your membership, or just come and listen and learn about how we are involved in our region."

The presentation and AGM take place Wednesday starting at 7:30 p.m. at the gallery.
