While Coldsnap brings the best in national and international performers to Prince George, many local musicians are also being showcased on Monday and Tuesday at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue.

Monday, Jan. 23 features a talented set of guitar-based bands.

Isaac Smeele is a young singer songwriter who goes beyond traditional acoustic guitar and vocals by creating textured sounds combining haunting melodies with drumbeats and electronics.

Darby Yule of Lost Cause 34 already has a legion of fans. As a solo act, he explores the full landscape of rock through projects like The Tear Has Dropped and Anywhere Road.

Jamie Bell is known for his work in the post-punk band Cera, but his own work lets him explore his more melodic side. The Cutest Band Ever performs crowd-pleasing shows that engages the audience to sing along.

And finally on Monday, The Bricks are an eclectic group of musicians well-suited to live audiences, having played in farmers' markets and stages around town.

Tuesday, Jan. 24 presents a more eclectic night of performers pushing the boundaries of music.

Doug Koyama is a Quesnel-based musician exploring improvised, self-accompanied vocals. Using a looper, he lays down a music bed using his own voice, then keeps building until there's a swirling sound of melody.

Mother Tareka of Ontario via Victoria is new to the P.G. scene. He's an MC, saxophonist and flutist creating conscious hip-hop inspired by global struggles.

Avid are a new ensemble diligently rocking out in the Prince George scene on the heavier side, although this new project mellows things out a bit.

Dead Street comes from the talented musical mind of Jeremy Stewart, blending psychedelia with grunge.

Each show begins at 7 p.m. at Art Space, 1685 Third Avenue and suggested donation is $10.
