Tonight, Two Rivers Gallery is hosting two cultural events at the same time under one roof.

Local artist Michelle Gaudet's collection entitled Figured In Colour will be unveiled at 7:30 p.m., with a reception downstairs.

Meanwhile, the upstairs MakerLab studio has a celebration from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to kick off their Mini Maker Faire initiative.

"Who is a Maker? Makers are folks with a passion for making things; curious people who spend long hours in their studios, shops, and garages working on projects that may involve art, engineering, craft or technology. We all are Makers," said MakerLab co-ordinator Kathleen Angelski. She and the Mini Maker Faire organizers are urging people who have these professions and hobbies to get ready for the main event on Sept. 20 - a showcase of key community hand-made innovations. Tonight is the official "first call" for expressions of interest.

The kickoff will feature live music, refreshments, a make-and-tell segment, discussions about how to get involved in the Mini Maker Faire event this fall, and a collaborative projected on the theme of Building Our Community.

"Of course you won't want to miss the opening of Michelle Gaudet's exhibition in the Rustad Galleria so activities have been scheduled collaboratively so that you don't have to choose but can enjoy both events," said Angelski.

"The exhibition depicts a series of figures rendered using almost exclusively coloured pencils," said assistant curator Maeve Hanna. "In place of using dark lines to outline the figures, Gaudet sketches them out in colour and then begins to highlight certain areas, sometimes concentrating on a hand, a leg, a face or the space between hair cascading from behind the ear to the shoulder. In doing so, Gaudet is offering an alternative perspective on traditional forms of drawing and the longstanding tradition of drawing the nude body."

Gaudet is scheduled to attend and provide a talk about the pieces on display and her creative process.

Both events are free of charge and the general public is welcome.
