Summer instrumental music comes in for a landing on Sunday.
The Prince George Airport will guide in a chamber trio on Sunday for a live performance in their big, vaulted ceilinged public area bathed in natural light and open to the eye.
The musicians are some of Prince George's best. Each one has a bright and well-documented reputation for their art form. Erica Skowron is the principal oboe player with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, Simon Cole is the PGSO's pro clarinet player, and Angela Alba is one of the most decorated pianists to ever come from Prince George. They will work together on Sunday to present a selection of music they entitled John Williams And His Influences.
Williams is the superstar soundtrack composer who wrote themes like Star Wars, Jaws, Superman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and many more. Williams has won five Oscar Awards (plus 45 other nominations) and 22 Grammy Awards, among his many other trophies and citations. His is a rich treasure chest of musical gems for the Alban Classical ensemble to fling about the airport's open spaces.
"The Prince George Airport Authority was thrilled to hear Alban Classical was available to play in our terminal," said PGAA marketing and communications manager Lindsay Cotter. "We are constantly looking for ways to give our customers a unique experience and this does exactly that. We received really positive feedback last summer when we hosted a Public Piano which celebrated the city's 100th birthday. Sounds from the trio are sure to fill the terminal and the hearts of those at YXS Sunday afternoon."
This concert is free of charge. It is sponsored by the PGAA, Alban Classical (a boutique music school as well as a regular performance company), the City of Prince George and the BC Arts Council.
The one-hour concert runs from 2-3 p.m.
Alban Classical also has a
June 10 engagement for the public's enjoyment. Skowron and Alba will perform an oboe, English horn and piano recital that evening at St. Andrew's United Church (3555 Fifth Ave.)
Admission is $20 (children get in for free).
