The peaty aroma of the burning Scottish nectar will waft through Theatre North West once again.
The semi-regular fundraiser for TNW calls in the city's lovers of Scotch and treats them to some of that nation's most coveted bottles of the winsome whisky.
The featured labels at this next edition include a Springbank and a Duncan Taylor.
"Two separate anonymous donors provided these, two of each kind," said TNW's Marnie Hamagami.
"There will be other varieties as well, we are nailing those down, but these are absolute highlight Scotches. They are very exciting to us because they represent the two ends of the spectrum. One is light and sunny and fruity, the other is spicy and peaty and earthy."
There is a third feature whisky at this event, and it stands out for a unique reason.
"It is Glen Breton from Cape Breton, distilled at the Glenora Distillery," said Hamagami, calling attention to the fact that the word Scotch, as pertains to whisky, is legally reserved for single malt varieties manufactured in Scotland. Glenora was the first single malt whisky distiller in North America and thus cannot use the word Scotch in its descriptions or on its labels, but it is nonetheless a comparable elixir and anyone who wishes to test the difference can do so at this TNW event.
"We had a generous donor bring it for us and we are really looking forward to sampling it," Hamagami said.
The Scotch tasting has a limited number of tickets available, going for up to $75 each. Appetizers are provided, and doors open at
7 p.m. Saturday night.
The first whisky is poured at 7:30 p.m.
There will be featured speakers discussing the nuances of the individual varieties on taste display that night.
There is formal and casual talk that accompanies each pouring. Each new flavour is introduced in increments of about 15 minutes.
Anyone wishing information or to purchase tickets may do so by contacting Hamagami at [email protected] or 250-563-6969, local 305.
