Two Prince George sisters have been dancing their hearts out this week. Abigael McCormick, 16, and Caitlin McCormick, 13, both earned spots in the provincial dance competitions held last week in Penticton. No sooner were they back than they had to polish up their routines for their studio recital which happens todayy and Saturday.
The two take their classes at Dance Your Hart Out studio. Nicole McCormick, their mom, is proprietor of the six-year-old facility inside the former Hart Highway Elementary School.
For Abigael, it was the second year in a row she has been one of Prince George's representatives at the provincials.
"I met a lot of nice people this year, and reconnected with some people I met last year," she said. "You go down to compete, but you only do that twice and the other 85 per cent of the time you're there it is workshops and social activities."
Caitlin said it was amazing how much new knowledge she gained from being around the best dancers in the province and the top-level adjudication that went with it. That she, her sister nor any other Prince George dancer made it into the medals this year did not bother her, because she was too gratified by the skill development.
"I got better in my dancing, learned new moves, and I was worried that I'd be around a lot of dancers who thought a lot of themselves but instead everyone was so nice," Caitlin said.
They and most of the 230 other dancers at the school will be pressed into stage action tonight. That 7 p.m. show is already sold out. On Saturday there are recital performances at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Each show will focus on different dancers on the Dance Your Hart Out roster, with some common performances by the 45 dancers in the competitive troupe.
