The Music On The Mountain festival tantalized the public when they named their first headliner act for 2016 and it was legendary punk band D.O.A.

Was the festival going in a different direction? Only in literal terms. Circumstances forced them to change their location from a mountain concert site at the Fort St. James ski facilities down to the community's fair and recreation meadow closer to town.

For that reason, the nickname MOM still applies.

Signing D.O.A. up for the show only represented how varied and diverse the list of music acts typically is at the annual summer event. This week, organizers disclosed the broader list of main names coming to MOM in 2016.

"The Edmonton contingent is particularly good, with The Billie Zizi Band bringing smoky jazz with rocking guitar, Ben Sures with his wit and story telling music, and The Give Em Hell Boys with their rocking country," said the festival's principal organizer Lionel Conant. "Psych-rock veterans Spaceport Union are coming from Victoria and we think folks will be blown away by their show.

"From Dunster, Samson's Delilah, of Mamaguroove fame, are bringing a brand new show to the festival, with a full band backing them including Australia's Tim Bennett.

"Then there's punk rock legends D.O.A.," he said, underscoring the gleeful anticipation he and audiences alike feel for this unique name on the lineup.

"As well, we are happy with the large group of Prince George artists arriving. We have the largest representation of local talent ever," Conant added.

The three days of the festival provide more than just music. MOM offers a menu of food vendors, a market of artisans and visual artists, and since it is a family-friendly affair, there are workshops and activities just for kids.

Conant listed off some of the special features, chiefly "visual arts, spoken word, and The Sorokathon as well. What's a Sorokathon? Prolific singer-songwriter Dave Soroka will be performing 24 hours of straight music during the the festival, all original songs and without repeating a single song!

"There will be a wellness centre and many workshops this year. Four stages, 120 performers, an anarchist village, The Beehive Collective with a live art mural, jazz, funk, rock, country, hip hop, blues, punk, folk, world, aboriginal, reggae, loop, electronica, spoken word, and metal, all packed into three days of magic," Conant added.

The festival is presented by Music on the Mountain Society. The 2016 edition taqkes place Aug. 19-21.
