One of Canada's great young jazz pianists, Michael Kaeshammer, is coming to Prince George for a spring concert.
Kaeshammer has been here numerous times before but it has been many years since his last appearance. This city was one of his earliest tour destinations as he started out first from Victoria then Vancouver in the 1990s after moving to Canada as a youth from his birth country of Germany. He was already a seasoned jazz veteran in Europe before he was out of his teen years.
Kaeshammer is coming to the P.G. Playhouse on March 3 for another spirited live performance. If he is known for anything, it is wowing an audience with his personal energy downloaded into his piano.
"For me the performance is as much about the energy coming off the stage as the energy coming from the audience," he said.
"It's about being myself, writing from the heart and showing my love for life. That's what I want to convey. After the show, people ask me, 'do you really have that much fun?' And I say 'you don't know the half of it. It's even more exhilarating than it looks'."
Since he roared onto the national scene from those early days of youth, Kaeshammer has established himself from coast to coast as one of Canada's most acclaimed and appreciated interpreters of song.
His roots are in classic jazz, but he also plays a strong boogie-woggie hand, he whips into experimental music sounds as well,
and he isn't afraid to be an entertaining singer and storyteller as well.
The "incendiary piano player," as he is often described, has released 10 studio albums, and has been nominated for seven Juno Awards, winning two.
Kaeshammer has also been named Musician Of The Year and Entertainer Of The Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards.
