Whether people are interested in attending a traditional semi-formal ballroom affair, a more relaxed dance or a multicultural event, here's a list of what's going on around town Saturday night, the year's ultimate party night.

Get those toes tapping with Boogie with the Stars Saturday from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Civic Centre. This New Year's Eve celebration is a fundraiser for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. Doors at 6 p.m. Tickets $75 each by phone 250-562-2515 or e-mail spiritofthenorth@northernhealth.ca.

Esther's Inn is the place to be for the hot Carnival of The Caribbean Saturday at 6 p.m. Enjoy music by DJ Mike and DJ Faz and dancing from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Cocktails at 6, buffet dinner at 7. Midnight champagne toast included. Tickets are $65 at Esther's Inn and Pastry Chef Bakery. Special deal for those staying at Esther's, 1151 Commercial Crescent. The traditional Hart Pioneer Centre New Year's Eve Dance is at the Hart Pioneer Centre, 6986 Hart Hwy, Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Andy and Dave perform. Tickets are $35 each, includes a buffet and door prizes. For more information call 250-962-6712.

The aptly named New Year's Eve Bash happens Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Ric's Grill, 547 George St. Dinner at 8:30, includes premium buffet, bubbly and dessert at midnight. DJ service all night. Casual seating upstairs. Tickets $75 plus tax per person. For more information call 250-614-9096.

The Blackburn Community Centre is also holding a New Year's Eve Dance Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., 2451 Blackburn Road South. Dance to DJ Dean from PG Entertainment, win party favours and enjoy a late night snack. Tickets are $35 each plus HST. For more information call 250-963-3292.

Everyone is invited to ring in 2012 at a New Year's Eve dance Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Senior Activity Centre, 425 Brunswick Street. Music by Country Rose. Doors at 7 p.m. Tickets $30 each, available at the office. Ticket includes lunch, hats, noise makers, fun, prizes and friendship. For more information call 250-564-3287.

A New Year Multicultural Dance is happening Saturday at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue. Ring in the New Year with African, Latino, Soca and hip hop music. Dinner is 8 to 9:30 p.m. and the dancing starts right after dinner. Tickets are $30 at Books & Co.

For nature lovers, New Year's Day Social at Forests for the World, hosted by Sons of Norway Ski Club, happens Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Includes a wiener roast around a campfire at the picnic area at Shane Lake. Hot dogs and cookies provided, bring your own refreshments. There will be skiing, tobogganing, snowshoeing and skating. Call Jennifer at 250-964-6564.

And for all you crazy Canucks, the 11th annual Polar Bear Dip challenge takes place Sunday at 2:30 p.m., check in at 2 p.m. at Welcome Centre at Ness Lake Bible Camp, 23705 Chief Lake Rd. Free Polar Bear T-shirts for the first 50 participants. Costumes are optional but encouraged. To celebrate 11 years of Dipping, there are great prizes for top fundraisers and best costume including Central Builders $200 gift card, as well as prizes from Northern Hardware, Boston Pizza, McDonald's, Ric's Grill and The Sandman Hotel.
