Island Mountain Arts in Wells is holding a songwriting contest for a chance to win a scholarship to attend a four-day workshop July 27 to 30 with Canadian roots music legend, Ken Whitely.

Island Mountain Arts in Wells is holding a songwriting contest for a chance to win a scholarship to attend a four-day workshop July 27 to 30 with Canadian roots music legend, Ken Whitely.

Whitely's productions have earned 10 Canadian gold and platinum records, four American gold records, 22 Juno and two Grammy nominations and sold more than 8 million copies.

The winner of the contest will also be asked to perform at the seventh annual ArtsWells Festival of All Things Arts July 30 to Aug. 2.

The contest is open to emerging and professional songwriters. Entries will be judged on originality, melody, composition and lyrics. Quality of recording and vocal ability are not part of the criteria.
