As part of the Prince George Cantata Singers' 45th season, their next performance goes Sunday at St. Michael's Anglican Church where 63 singers will present Reflections at 2 p.m.

Featured music will be the Gabriel Faur Requiem, with local musician Barb Parker on the organ, said Colin Dix, vice president of the Cantata Singers.

Gabriel Urbain Faur, teacher and musician, was one of the foremost French composers of his time. His style influenced many twentieth-century composers. He wrote the Faur Requiem in the late 1880s after his parents died.

Cantata Singers choir members include people in their late teens and adults of all ages, including in their 70s, said Dix, who is 74.

Dix is the only remaining founding member of the Cantata Singers that started in 1968 when a group of frustrated church choristers needed a bit more stage time.

The group gave their first performance in 1969 of the Messiah, he added.

"And the choir has just taken off, " said Dix. "We started the Northern String Orchestra under Imant Raminsh and that became the Caledonia String Orchestra and that became the Prince George Symphony Orchestra."

During the show there will be three pieces performed, including the Gabriel Faur Requiem, the Elenor Daley Requiem written by the renowned Canadian composer, and another Faur piece, Cantique de Jean Racine.

"It's all about looking back over life and all that sort of good stuff," said Dix.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at the PGSO Office, at the door, and from any choir member.
