The City of Prince George's 100th birthday will be celebrated by the nation's most beloved storyteller.

Stuart McLean is coming back to Prince George.

McLean - whose brother was once a senior staff member at UNBC, whose radio career first went public on the venerable show Morningside with the late legend of broadcasting Peter Gzowski, whose books have entertained millions around the world, whose voice has transmitted poems and stories and letters and some say the very essence of Canada on his program The Vinyl Cafe. He will be the first of many points of centennial celebration for the modern version of this community.

For the first time ever, he will deliver his show from the stage at CN Centre.

A Stuart McLean - Vinyl Cafe show always has stories about Canada's favourite record store owner Dave, his wife Morley, and their kids Sam and Stephanie. Even neighbours like Mary Turlington have become part of our national consciousness.

The show also has large doses of music. Over the years, Prince George has been treated to the likes of Dan Hill, Dala Girls, Danny Michel, Murray McLauchlan and many others who came along with the humble host.

There are always other sides of the show, too. Little skits, other stories (often from Prince George), audience participation segments. They get cobbled together into a heartwarming concert event.

The next edition happens on March 8, and tickets go on sale Monday at Studio 2880, CN Centre box office and online at Ticketmaster.ca.

This Prince George show will be taped live, and will be heard on CBC Radio three times in the next two years.
