Prince George author Hilary Crowley is taking her most recent travel memoir, Mini Saga in South Africa, on a book tour that starts in Quesnel later this month.

Crowley is a physiotherapist who has worked as a pediatric therapist in Prince George, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Fraser Lake and Burns Lake.

Crowley dedicated decades to doing extensive volunteer work overseas and started the charity, Samuha Overseas Development Association (SODA), which supports a program for the disabled in rural south India.

“My most recent travel memoir, Mini Saga in South Africa, depicts life in South Africa during Apartheid,” Crowley said. “The system of Apartheid is detailed, together with the influence of the Church. Black History Month may be an opportune time to explore this history.”

The book explores Canada’s involvement under the leadership of Brian Mulroney and Nelson Mandela is highlighted as an outstanding leader in the world.

“During this year in South Africa, I worked at Baragwanath Hospital, the large African Hospital for Soweto,” Crowley said. “I also visited Zululand with a fluent Zulu linguist. These experiences and many others are captured in my book.”

Crowley will be reading from Mini Saga in South Africa in Quesnel in Books & Co., on Friday, Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the Wells Hotel at 8 p.m. Crowley will do a book reading and slide show at Fraser Lake Library Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. and in Vanderhoof Public Library at 7 p.m. that evening.

Crowley will be available to sign books and participate in discussions at each location.
