It may be cold, but it's time to clean off those popsicles to get at the sticks.
There's a contest to win, after all.
But if you don't have the thirst to lick 100 popsicle sticks cleans, the 19th Annual Ultimate Popsicle Stick Bridge Contest has you covered.
Competitors can pick up their bridge kits from Pine Centre Mall two weeks before the
April 2 event. The event is building off a strong year.
In 2015, it had 98 participants in five categories: primary, intermediate, secondary, adult open, and adult professional.
There are five building rules to live by: a maximum of 100 sticks and only white glue; sticks must be left whole; the bridge has to span a 500 millimetre gap; it must be a minimum of 50 mm wide; and no painting, but non-structural decorations are welcome.
In 18 years, the all-time heaviest load was 1,060 lbs.
Put on by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC's Central Interior Branch, the event is also a celebration of National Engineering and GeoScience Month and aims to "provide kids and adults alike the opportunity to test their design skills by building the strongest bridge possible."
The bridge kits can be picked up at Pine Centre Mall on March 19, 2016 or by contacting Lee at [email protected].
