If you're looking for a stronger beat to get your love muscle pounding for your Valentine's Day entertainment, check out Phos, a local independent dark rock band at Riley's Bar tonight.

The band started in 2012, mostly finding their sound and focusing on song development.

Phos is ready to showcase its sound, presenting aggressive alternative rock, not quite metal. It's a 90s grunge sound influenced by 70s inspired classic rock, and the band decided to use glum s a musical description.

The band is Christos Vardacostas, lead singer drummer songwriter, Ajit Singh, original guitarist and songwriter, Neil Tajncar, original bassist now guitarist, and Teresa DeReis, bass, who is the most recent addition to the band and joined last year.

"The lyrics are typically about everything I don't like about the world and how things work," said Vardacostas, who said the band will record some songs to get a CD out in the next few months.

The band will see if there's any festivals to attend in the coming months as well as find some local venues at which to perform.

"I would imagine by the fall we'll play in Prince George again," said Vardacostas.

Phos starts at Riley's Pub, 600 Quebec St., at 9 p.m. $5 cover.
