Celebrating 100 Years of the Prince George Exhibition, the centennial will be held at Exhibition Park August 8 to 12.
To honour those organizers that have been in it for the long haul, the Prince George Agricultural & Historical Association, sponsors of the exhibition, will hold a Legacy Banquet at CN Centre on Thursday, August 9.
The banquet will feature locally grown and produced food, prepared by the chef and served by the staff at the Ramada Hotel, host hotel of the centennial celebrations.
In addition to the celebratory program, entertainment will be provided by comedian Herb Dixon.
"Past presidents, managers and board members are invited to attend as our guests," said Nancy Loreth, president of the PGX. "It is the current board's way of thanking and recognizing the contribution of these intrepid and consummate volunteers. This organization would not be celebrating a century without them. They are the real secret to our longevity."
Leading up to the Legacy Banquet is the official ribbon cutting and unveiling of the public art mural created by local artist Milan Basic, a legacy project made possible with funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage. Other projects include the publishing of the PGX's own history book in partnership with the local oral history group and a committee of volunteers.
Board members, volunteers and staff have been combing through historical documents and publications to find as many people as possible that have been involved with the fair. Spouses and family members of those who participated in the fair in the past are asked to contact the PGX office 250-563-4096. A limited number of tickets to the Legacy Banquet will be offered for purchase as of June 1 for $50 each including tax and gate admission at the Prince George Exhibition office on the exhibition grounds, 4199-18th Avenue.
