The Western Canadian Music Awards will be handed out in October at the annual BreakOut West convention.
The complete list of nominees was released on Wednesday and at least one Prince George name was on the list.
Fresh off his appearance this past month with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, born-and-raised Prince George violinist Karl Stobbe is now on the shortlist for Classical Artist/Ensemble of the Year. Actually, he's kind of there twice. He is in the running as part of a duo with Gwen Hoebig, but he is also a nominee as a member of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
The other three nominees are B.C. acts duo corvi and Victoria Guitar Trio plus Manitoba's Megumi Masaki.
Broadening to look at the local region, the Community Excellence Award has a connected nominee in the form of Barney Bentall & The Cariboo Express.
If any other nominees have connection to Prince George, please pass that information on to Citizen A&E reporter Frank Peebles at 250-562-2441 or [email protected].
The event is an extravaganza of music networking, education, performance and awards. It moves from place to place each year, in the seven provinces and territories that comprise the Western Canadian Music Alliance. Members of the association get to vote on the nominees shortlisted for the many trophies. This year, it is in Kelowna from Oct. 10 to 14. Local musicians and those connected to the music industry are encouraged to become members of the association and/or attend the many events of BreakOut West.
