His personal ID says he's Mat from Whistler. His passport says he's originally Mat from England. But Mat is an alien so who knows where in the galaxy he's actually from.
Mat the Alien's rise to fame first emerged from his parents' record store in the U.K., bounced off some drum skins at the age of 10, and before he was old enough to drink in bars he was weaving dance beats in the urban U.K. club scene.
He moved to Canada to pursue his love for snow sports. He became the unofficial house DJ for the town of Whistler in the process - snowboards in the day, platters at night.
Sports and music have gone together for Mat ever since. He has been a live attraction for the X Games, the World Ski and Snowboard Festival, U.S. Supercross, and two Olympic Games. He gave some scratch to the EA Sports NBA Home Court 3 soundtrack, and he's an official beatbuster for Monster Energy Drinks.
He has built a monster reputation around the world at dance hall centre stage. He's played Italy, Iceland, Guatemala, Korea, Mexico, Germany, Philippines, Moscow and many more. He's been coast to coast in Canada, crisscrossed the United States, and held a mainstage residency for eight months at Eye Candy at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas.
Mat the Alien has laid down beats on the same bill with Snoop Dog, Jungle Brothers, Buck 65, Sweatshop Union, No FX and piles of others. He has tens of thousands of downloads to his credit, and is easily considered one of Canada's premier beatmixers. Knowledge Magazine called his arrangements "awe-inspiring" and "some next level [stuff]."
When the Prince George Citizen and Scene PG Magazine teamed up for a music series, the first on the roster was Mat. He rolls his intergalactic beat suite into Heartbreakers tonight for a ravenous bass banquet. Doors open at 9 p.m.
Special guests include Ricky Business and Afreakwent.
Tickets are $15, available at Alfredo's Pub (15th Avenue near Ospika), at Homework and Ruins (both on 3rd Avenue downtown) and if there are any left there might be some at the door.
