Old school rock for PGX fans

As the band's lead singer asserts, Krome's mission is not to follow trends. "It's not even setting a trend but just do what we do and bring the fun back to rock 'n' roll," said Krome's Shawn Meehan.

As the band's lead singer asserts, Krome's mission is not to follow trends.

"It's not even setting a trend but just do what we do and bring the fun back to rock 'n' roll," said Krome's Shawn Meehan.

"We don't just to try appeal to the kids and we don't just try to appeal to the older crowd. I think we appeal to two or three generations because we've got flavours of old-school rock but I also think it's produced modern enough that the kids get it, too."

Krome, which plays at the Prince George Exhibition (PGX) Friday night, is wooing some top names in the business, according to Meehan, who provides a name-dropping warning before explaining.

"We're looking at different producers to produce our next record and I've been hangin' out with Tommy MacDonald -- Tommy Mac -- who was the bass player for Hedley and we were talking about that," said Meehan.

"He said there is sort of a disconnect going on where he sees tons of kids come through his studio --17, 18-year-olds that come in and they're writing rock songs and they're all into classic rock and into the old-school bands and yet radio and mainstream media is not really reflecting that for the kids. So there's this disconnect so our goal is to reconnect."

Meehan believes his audience is not age-specific, adding young and old will appreciate Krome's sound.

"Tommy said he really believes that there just needs to be another band to come along with another big, fun rock record and it'll be reconnected again and it will be brought back to mainstream and that's our goal for our next record," said Meehan.

Following Kronic Rock, the first album, Krome is currently working on its next album and a single should be out early next year.

There's big promises from this rock 'n' roll band about their upcoming performance.

"You will have the best time you've ever had at a rock show!" promised Meehan. "That's a bold statement but I'm willing to live up to it. There will be no shoe-gazing [which means you're bored] at our show."

Local band Lost Cause 34 will open for Krome during the PGX Rock Show beginning Friday at 9 p.m. The concert is included in the gate admission.
