A new artist will be moving into Studio 2880. A search is underway to determine the new artist-in-residence at the arts facility. The application process is now open.

The previous artists-in-residence have been Corey Hardeman, Cliff Mann and most recently Crystal Lynn Tarr.

The artist-in-residence gets a year of free studio space in the creation area above the Studio 2880 feature gallery. Not only does it come with ample area to set up your tools and work 24-7 at your own pace, but it also has direct access to other artists who have their own art operations in the same part of the building, including acclaimed watercolourist Mann, who decided to stay on when his year was up, and floral specialist Janice Parker, the most recent addition to the neighbourhood of painters.

The artist-in-residence also gets special privileges with the Community Arts Council, caretakers of the Studio 2880 space and the lead arts agency in the city. Vending space at Studio Fair, inclusion in the annual Art Battle, exhibition opportunities, and more chances to shine are also packaged into the position.

The application deadline is June 20.

In order to apply, compile a portfolio of your work, prepare or update an artist CV, and write two essays (each a maximum of 500 words). Essay one should be an explanation of why the selection committee should choose you. Essay two should explain what you would do with your year of opportunity, should you be selected.
