Some say Prince George has a gap when it comes to the arts for children and youth, now 4Cats Arts Studio is building a bridge to cover the gap.
The studio is holding an open house Saturday, Feb. 11 for youth to try their hand at splatter painting, sculpture, the clay wheel, paper mch, silk screening and many other art forms.
Christina Lafleche, owner, curator and artist, said she was inspired to move into her true heart's desire after years of feeling unfulfilled while working with numbers.
Teaching children how to make art is her new passion, she said.
Teachers offer courses in a variety of media that youth can attend during spring and summer camp as well as regular classes, which are divided into winter, spring, summer and fall sessions.
During the sessions, budding artists can focus on their own work while taking art history lessons on such artists as post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh and American painter, printmaker, filmmaker Andy Warhol.
The open house runs from noon to 4 p.m. at 18-556 North Nechako Road, in the Parkhill Centre.
Classes are divided by age and people can check out what the new studio offers at www.4cats.com/princegeorge.
