Lumberjacks are OK

She's a Lumberjack and she's OK. She sleeps all night and she works all day.

Pamela Kranz of the White Spruce City Chorus is a longtime member with the group who celebrates the holiday season during Home for Christmas at the Elder Citizens Recreation Centre Nov. 26.

Traditional Christmas tunes are showcased during the first half of the show. Then the ladies shake it up a bit by grabbing a lumberjack attitude and with G-rated lyrics (adapted to our Pine Beetle-affected region) and entertain the audience with lots of rowdy humour and antics.

"During the first half we'll perform I'll Be Home for Christmas, Silent Night, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and then in the second half it's a lumberjack theme with re-written verses of the Monty Python lumberjack song," said Kranz. "We have one verse that goes like this - I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day, I cut down trees all winter long in 40 feet of snow, in summertime it warms up to 28 below."

The White Spruce City Chorus is a 30-year charter member of Sweet Adelines International, a world-wide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.

Bringing membership up to 25 by adding 10 singers through a recent membership drive, the chorus is always looking for more singers to join the fun, said Kranz.

"At contests we're called The Mighty Northerners because we are so small in number," Kranz added. "We have a great director, Kathy Pereira, and she's awesome."

Shows are at 2 and 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are $10 at Studio 2880 or by calling 250-613-5655 or 250-562-9855.
