Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance is the world's highest grossing Irish dance show with audiences of 60 million people in 68 countries over the last 16 years.

Lord of the Dance is the classic tale of good versus evil, based on Irish folklore that brings a passionate love story to life. The show is a blend of traditional and modern Celtic music and dance.

Based on the Irish tale about the Lord of Darkness, Don Dorcha, challenges the ethereal lord of light, Lord of the Dance. Battle lines are drawn, passions ignite and a love story fuelled by dramatic leaps and turns begins to build against a backdrop of Celtic rhythm.

Canadian Ciaran Plummer plays Don Dorcha, Lord of

Darkness.

Plummer started dancing at four years old and won the Irish Dance World championships twice, when he was 16 and 17.

No emotional expression, with arms straight at your sides is traditionally how Celtic dancers perform, so all the focus is on your feet, Plummer explained, who is from Toronto.

When performing as a lead character of Lord of the Dance, Plummer said he soon discovered that expressing himself using face and arms was a bit of a challenge, especially because it went against all his previous training in the art of Celtic dance.

"It takes a while to get used to it," said Plummer, who began in the Lord of the Dance troupe right after he won the world

championships at 17.

"I was dancing with the troupe for about three or four years and then in 2003 I got the role of the bad guy," said Plummer. "Now I just have to let go when I perform. It's always a challenge to make the audience hate you. But it's the best thing when you hear people booing - that's when you know you've done your job."

The show is at CN Centre

Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets.
