If you are literally looking for love or perhaps looking for literary love, or even a literate love the library might be just the place to be Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for the Gen X Read Dating scene for those 35 to 45 years old.
The first 20 women and the first 20 men to register will attend the event with a book, film, DVD or any other item in hand that inspires conversation of the library kind.
"This particular Read Dating event is in direct response to a request from the community," said Amy Dhanjal, communications coordinator at the library. "The library also strives to be a social place so we're not just about books and taking out reading material but we're also a meeting place for the community. We want to be fun and interactive and I think this program speaks to that."
Each woman will be sitting at a table in the Keith Gordon Room and the men will move from one table to the next after a three-minute chat.
"This is just a nice laid back way to meet somebody without it being too much of a high pressure situation," said Dhanjal. "This is very casual. I know a lot of people are tired and jaded by the internet dating scene so this gives them another opportunity."
At the end of the meet and greet portion of the evening, participants get to spend time as a group where they can mingle and enjoy some refreshments. That way they can exchange contact information or just have a chat.
During previous events, some of the ladies became friends and some people went out after the read dating event to continue enjoying themselves at a downtown restaurant, explained Marty James, a coordinator of the Read Dating program.
"You might not leave with a new love interest but you might leave with a few new friends," said Dhanjal.
