The choral voices of the region are harmonizing in Vanier Hall this week.
The annual School District 57 Singfest choir event is taking place tonight through Thursday.
Each night is devoted to entertaining audiences, exciting parents and teachers, and building the personal and vocal development of our area's youth.
The special guest this year is adjudicator Fiona Blackburn.
She is an adjunct professor at UBC and is the 15-year artistic director of the British Columbia Girls Choir based in Metro Vancouver. She is a live performer, recording artist and frequent workshop leader.
"Engaging, energetic, and masterful at all things vocal, Fiona draws participants in and gets the most out of each individual," said Willi Zwozdesky, executive director of the BC Choral Federation.
"An especially dynamic group leader, she quickly takes the pulse of the situation and has the depth of experience and technique to create effective remedies resulting in memorable and effortless music making."
Blackburn turns her attention to the young singers of Prince George in this, the 37th year of Singfest. She will go to the schools participating for some specialized instruction in their familiar environs, including some tips for the respective choir directors, then be at Vanier Hall for the performance segment.
At the end of each evening, all the choirs participating that night will join for a mass choir grand finale.
Singfest starts at 7 p.m. each night.
The public is invited to attend.
